DMB @ MSG
As a 30-year fan of the Dave Matthews Band, I was ecstatic when I heard that they were going to be playing back-to-back shows again at Madison Square Garden. Even though MS has made my mobility more difficult and causes me to experience fatigue, balance issues, and difficulty walking for long periods of time, I was determined to make it to the concerts and to enjoy the experience. I was grateful to have Geoff, who, along with my cane, helped me to stand and dance for huge stretches during the shows. Hearing multiple of my favorite songs, including my MS mantra. "Two Step," was a powerful reminder of why I continue to push myself to do things that I may not think I can do. The lyrics "Celebrate we will, because life is short, but sweet for certain," remind me to embrace each day and to find joy in the moments that matter. It took my body almost a week to fully recover from the concerts, but the experience was worth it. I was able to forget about my MS for a few hours each night and immerse myself in the music that I love. I am proud of myself for attending the shows and for continuing to pursue my passion for live music despite how much harder multiple sclerosis had made it.
